PG-1 Transitional
Goals
- Increase
proficiency in the performance of medical history and physical examination
skills
- Increase
proficiency in the formulation of differential diagnosis for patients and
initiation of treatment in patients presenting with acute and subacute
critical illness
Objectives
- Demonstrate
performance a complete medical history and physical examination to an
attending physician
- Perform
a history and physical examination on each patient who presents to the
Intermediate Care Unit Medical service
- Document
a history and physical examination on each patient admitted to the medical
service on Intermediate care.
- Discuss
the differential diagnosis for each new problem on each patient on a daily
basis with the attending rounder or surrogate
- Demonstrate
a basic understanding of the following concepts:
a.
Use of the mechanical ventilator – settings,
indications
b.
Acute respiratory failure
c.
shock
- Deliver
one oral presentation per week to the Intermediate Care Unit team about a
topic related to current patient care
- Assist
with performance of the following procedures performed by attending
physician or physician assistant:
a.
Central IV
b.
Thoracentesis
c.
Other procedures as directed by attending
rounder
- Demonstrate
the ability to perform the following procedures and document on procedure
log:
a.
peripheral IV insertion
b.
NGT insertion
c.
Radial artery ABG
d.
phlebotomy
- Evaluate
these goals and objectives, and make recommendations for changes at the
end of the month
Schedule – Monday through Friday, and on two Sundays
