- Health and Dental insurance
Health and dental insurance is provided without cost to each resident and
immediate family members. Coverage is effective on the date of appointment.
- Sick or Disability Plans
Short-term illness and long-term disability plans are provided to all
residents.
- Vacation Time
Residents receive three weeks of vacation and one week of educational leave
annually. Vacation and educational leave are taken in one month blocks.
- Life insurance
A $ 30,000 life insurance policy is provided for all residents without
charge and is effective on date of appointment.
- Meals
Residents receive free meals during on-call duty. Refreshments are provided
at most teaching conferences.
- Professional Liability Coverage
Professional liability coverage is provided while participating in residency
activities at any of the DMC institutions.
- Moonlighting
After completing one year of training, residents in good academic standing
may moonlight within the hospitals of the Detroit Medical Center. Most
residents utilize this benefit to supplement their income and enhance
clinical experience. Residents with J-1 visas are not eligible.
- Uniforms
White coats and laundering services are provided for residents without
charge Scrub clothes are provided for night call at each institution.
- Child Care Services Available both at Grace Hospital and within the
DMC .
- Social Events
Social Events are arranged by the Social Committee which is composed of both
residents and faculty. Activities are planned monthly and encompass a wide
range of interests.
- University Physical Education Facilities
As a Full-time post-doctoral student at Wayne State University, residents
can use the physical education facilities on the main campus. The WSU campus
is located about a half mile north of the DMC's downtown campus.
- Tennis and racquetball courts. a swimming pool and a running track are

- Housing
Adequate and affordable housing is available within 15 to 20 minutes of the
hospital.
- Conference expenses
Travel and expenses are subsidized by the department of Internal Medicine
for any resident who is the first author of a scientific abstract selected
for presentation at a regional or national meeting in the continental United
States.
- Wayne State University Benefits
All University educational and recreational facilities, including libraries,
sporting facilities, and theaters, are available to WSU residents. As a
full-time post-doctoral student at WSU, you can also receive discounted
